Just to clarify all standard troubleshooting methods have been completed and the problem remains. The file is not corrupt. I created an entirely new file and the problem is still there. I opened multiple other documents and the problem still remained. It's also not a profile issue, I have deleted the profile and had it recreated, and the problem still remains. As far as I can tell it seems to possibly be related to an update that was pushed out by WSUS. But that is not for sure. The only thing that fixes the issue is to do a complete system rebuild. After the rebuild there are several office related security patches and updates that come down from WSUS. If I can have any additional ideas that would be great. Installed Office 2007 and it worked!(that's not the answer though) Then I went throught the process of reinstalling O365 and it didn't work again. I had already checked “ignore otherapplications that use Dynamic Data Exchange (DDE)' and it was indeed unchecked. I checked the box, knowing it wouldn't fix the issue and true enough, it didn't fix the issue.but then I unchecked the box and tried it again and I was able to open and edit the embedded Excel file, go figure!
